Meet the Coaches

Susan Monardo
Coach Susan Monardo has over 25 years of coaching experience in foil, epee and saber.
Certified by the United States Fencing Coaches Association and the Professional Coaches' Alliance, she is also a Professional Coach Member of the US Fencing Association, USOC Safe Sport Certified and a previous Board Member of the USFA's Metropolitan Division.
In addition to her time coaching at Blade Runner, Coach Susan also brings the sport of fencing to the Staten Island community through a network of camps and school programs.

Colin Alarcon
Coach Colin is a professional member of the USFA. Having served as Foil Captain for his varsity team, Coach Colin's motivational and leadership style is an integral part of his approach in teaching the skills and strategies of fencing. Whether at our Blade Runner club location or at fencing programs in the community, Coach Colin approaches all instruction with the same energy and encouragement to bring out the best in the fencer.

Dylan Eng
Coach Dylan has taken his previous experience coaching the youngest of athletes in soccer and brings it to the fencing strip for our Mini Musketeer fencers. He is able to find just the right combination of education and fun when teaching the basics of fencing to our 5 through 7 year olds. An epee fencer himself, in addition to Mini Musketeers and assisting with other fencing class instruction, Coach Dylan also is part of the after school and summer camp staff.

Ben Zanelli
Coach Ben assists our fencers in discovering how to temper the competitive drive needed on the strip with the spirit of sportsmanship and integrity. A distinguished 2024 MVP scholar athlete and epee varsity captain, Coach Ben leads by example. In conjunction with his work at Blade Runner, Coach Ben has assisted coaching teams on the high school level and held fencing demonstrations for youngsters in some of our underserved communities.

Grady Williams
Coach Grady's primary goal is building endurance and strength for his students, which are essential for lasting in competitions and tournaments. With a degree in physical education, Coach Grady works closely with the other coaches in providing a cohesive plan to combine strength, stamina, and skill development to improve overall athleticism and assist those looking to take their performance to the next level.
